Formula Student Team
As part of their ongoing sponsorship and support with three Formula Student teams, MAHLE Powertrain have recently attended the launch events for this year’s contenders. Read on for MAHLE Powertrain's presentation of launch events at UBRacing, Team Bath Racing Electric and Cardiff Racing - three teams to watch in 2018.
UBRacing's Launch event
Our delegates have recently attended the launch of UB21, the newest Formula Student racing car of University of Birmingham Racing. The team behind UBRacing are a passionate and enthusiastic group of future engineers who are proud of the car they have produced. After last year’s success they have really pushed hard to improve the car for 2018 and the stunning design is proof of it, including carbon fibre wheels. Having won the endurance event last year and coming second overall at Silverstone, the team are determined to better this amazing achievement and we cannot wait to see UBR21 compete for the top prize this year.
TBRe’s Launch Event
Team Bath Racing Electric launched their car for the new season in the Edge Theatre at the University of Bath. As a gold sponsor of the team, we were honoured to attend the launch and see the car in detail ahead of its inaugural running at Silverstone. The team includes students who have completed undergraduate engineering placements at MAHLE Powertrain and are now applying the experience and skills learned to this vehicle project, making them invaluable members of the team. Last summer TBRe ranked as the top UK electric team and now they are trying to defend this title with a new chassis design and a higher integrated accumulator. The team is also aiming to climb up to the 20th of the overall leaderboard.
Cardiff Racing’s Launch Event
We have also recently attended the launch of Cardiff’s title contender for this year. During the visit we were invited to have a tour of their leading facilities which they put to use in manufacturing this year’s car. We had a particularly valuable meeting with this year’s management and supervisor team to discuss the future development of the team, particularly areas in which MAHLE Powertrain can support through utilising our industry leading facilities and extensive knowledge base. This includes developing an E85 engine simulation model as well as internal engine modifications to improve performance and engine response.
Cardiff Racing is the current title holder of Formula Student UK and the first UK team to achieve this in the 20 years of the competition. Cardiff Racing is determined to keep their British title and conquer Formula Student in the Czech Republic as well. They are an extremely dedicated team of engineers who have worked tirelessly to develop and refine their new car, CR14 (aka Dewi). In addition to all their engineering efforts, they have been relentless in educating the future generation of engineers through STEM activities throughout Wales.
We wish all our sponsored teams the best of luck for the Silverstone event. Follow the latest updates on MAHLE Powertrain and the continued collaborative activities with IMechE and our sponsored teams through social media and the next newsletters.
