Making an impact: meet the 2023 IMechE Young Member Award winners

The Young Member of the Year Awards, presented by the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE) are an opportunity to recognise outstanding commitment to the engineering sector, industry, and wider economy.

Join us in congratulating our IMechE 2023 Young Member Award winners! Through their exceptional work and dedication, they embody all that’s inspiring about engineering while also demonstrating the importance of community and collaboration within the engineering field.

Young Member Visionary 2023, Stephen McLaughlin (right), values seizing opportunities, expanding his horizons to grow as an engineer. Stephen suggests, "Take any opportunity that comes your way to work outside your area of expertise. It can greatly benefit your personal and professional development and make you a more rounded engineer."

Networking proved pivotal for Volunteer of the Year, Faisal Saeed (left). He applauds the support and guidance from senior IMechE volunteers, stating, "IMechE’s platform provided me professional networking opportunities."

Steven Hoo, our second Volunteer of the Year for 2023, aspires to bring a global perspective to local young members. Steven sees personal rewards from volunteering, which enables him "to effect meaningful change while highlighting the exceptional talent within our local community."

Lastly, Jia Rui Chow (right) our Developing Engineer of the Year demonstrates the strength of authenticity and willingness to learn from others. Recounting his journey, Jia reminds us of the importance of "being really honest to myself about my wants, strengths, and weaknesses, while also trusting that there’s always someone out there willing to teach."
