“Mecceleration 2019” was held on the 26 July 2019 at the Islamic University of Technology, OIC. It was organised by the Department of Mechanical and Chemical Engineering. The event report allows readers to get a feel but as for the real show, there is no better way than experiencing it with your own eyes!

Chief guest at the festival was Mr Amir Farid Abu Hasan, Malaysian ambassador to Bangladesh. A total of ten separate events constituted this grand nation-wide festival with over 500+ participants battling it out for total prize money worth 300,000 Taka. Robo Soccer

The final came down to Team Igniters from BRAC University and UAP Alien Bot from University of Asia Pacific with Team Igniters emerging victorious.

Robo Race

Robo Race was introduced this year for the first time. Custom-built, high-speed mini-rovers take to the tracks and are driven through a series of obstacles to fight for the first position and also the fastest time.

Twenty six teams from 14 different universities participated in this event with LU Hunters from Leading University clinching the 1st prize and DIU Graviton from Daffodil International University coming in 2nd.

Robo Riot

This is the third time Mecceleration has hosted this event. With an all-out riot taking place on stage, Robo Riot may be the most exciting event. Armored robots deck out their uniquely designed weapons and have a mega clash to determine the ultimate robo-warrior.

Fifteen teams from ten different universities participated in this event with Algos from University of Science and Technology, Chittagong earning the highest points to become champions while SUST Predators from Shahjalal University of Science and Technology became runners-up.

Project Showcasing

An open platform to display how one’s ideas have materialised. Participants take their idea, apply it to solve real life problems, or take an existing application and build it anew in a separate field to serve a brand new purpose. This platform gives an invitation to both University and School-Colleges to grab ideas and bring them into reality, creating something that is feasible, efficient, unique and solve at least one of the World's problems.

Project Showcasing

Poster presentation

For the people who have had an idea that they worked on, sweated a lot on, sacrificed hours of sleep and proper meals while researching on, they deserve a place on the stage to present their findings. This is the stage where participants draw up a poster and fill it up with their research results, data, applications of their idea and the opportunities their idea holds. “Team Oddball” from Bangladesh University of Professionals took 1st prize in this one with “Heavy-weight 150” from IUT coming in second.

Business Case Study

CAD competition

The story of every engineering masterpiece begins with a brilliant design. A design that changes the shape of the future, that touches our life, that will be dominant for centuries. Hundreds of pages of research, many hours of brainstorming and engineering knowledge are the prerequisites of an efficient design. That’s where Computer Aided Design software fits in. This competition challenged designers on their engineering innovation.

General Knowledge competition

The world around us is full of information. Information that can be amazing, enlightening, boring, creepy, weird, bizarre. The General Knowledge Competition is for those individuals who have a habit of soaking up almost everything that is happening around them and around the world and even in the stars. It offers them a stage where they can fight it out with like-minded individuals and get a chance to become a champion of knowledge.

Engineering Olympiad

Engineers looking to be tested on the basics of mechanical engineering and eager to know where they stand when compared on a national level, participated in this competition. The competition presented questions from a variety of subjects.

Business Case Study Competition

In midst of all competition which compliments the engineering and innovation towards technology, business case study competition stands apart where at the core of it lies the objective to bring out the inner showmanship and analytical skills. It is said that technology alone cannot change the world unless the business around it works. So, to make sure everybody holds a chance, this competition was open to students of all backgrounds, be it science, commerce or arts. Team Horseman from IUT came in 1st and Con Artists from NSU took home the 2nd prize.
