Apprentice Automation Challenge Team

Sporting possibly the best team name this year, meet the apprentices at BAE Systems Submarines from Blackpool & The Fylde College looking to

Working at the beautiful BAE Systems Submarines site in Barrow-in-Furness, all of our team are degree apprentices completing a manufacturing engineering course at Blackpool & The Fylde College (Lancashire Energy HQ).

Although we are on the same course we have unique backgrounds, complementing this task by providing a variety of different experiences prior to our apprenticeship:

  • Matthew has experience in an engineering company working on the shop floor, providing first-hand experience of the primary environment our product will be in.
  • Theo has previously worked in mobile telecoms and has maintained cars for many years, giving knowledge on dealing with rusty bolts, and the needs of the product and customer.
  • Jack has experience with coding and control systems which will aid in designing the control systems for our product.

Our team roles are as follows:

  • Team Lead and Mechanical Design – T. Croom-Johnson
  • System Design – J. Newby
  • Research and Development – D. Martyn
  • Scheduling, Presentation Delivery and COSH – R. Lewis
  • Prototyping (3D Printing) – A. Eastwood
  • Marketing and Finance – M. Taylor
