The Institution of Chemical Engineers to move into Institution of Mechanical Engineers’ headquarters in Westminster.
The Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE) will be welcoming the Institution of Chemical Engineers (IChemE) to One Birdcage Walk in Westminster in the summer, in a move to encourage more joint work between professional engineering institutions (PEIs).
The move will give IChemE access to excellent member facilities in the heart of Westminster. This follows a similar move by the Institute of Marine Engineering, Science and Technology (IMarEST) who moved into One Birdcage Walk earlier this year.
IMechE, IChemE and IMarEST have also agreed to work together in South East Asia, sharing office bases in Kuala Lumpur and Singapore.
Stephen Tetlow, Chief Executive of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers said: “IChemE joining IMechE and IMarEST at One Birdcage Walk will ensure there is an even stronger engineering hub right in the heart of Westminster.
“I am committed to develop greater collaboration between professional engineering institutions (PEIs), and co-locating will allow us to be better able to pursue opportunities to work together in the future.”
The IMechE was formed in Birmingham in 1847 and One Birdcage Walk was officially opened as the Institution's headquarters in May 1899.
The building, which overlooks St James’s Park, was designed by architect Basil Slade.
