The IMechE Pakistan Group’s North Panel Quarterly Meeting for the second quarter of 2024 was successfully held on 13 July.

This hybrid event, taking place both in person at the National Science and Technology Park (NSTP), National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST) Islamabad, and online, brought together the executive committee to discuss future plans, initiatives, and strategies to enhance the engagement and development of young engineers.

Strategic Planning and Budgeting

The newly elected North Panel committee for the 2024-2025 session, including Hon Secretary Ibrahim Khan and Vice Chair Dr. Emad Uddin, spearheaded discussions on several key areas:

Youth Engagement Initiatives: YM Chair Owais Azhar presented ideas to rekindle interest among young students in engineering, particularly in mechanical engineering. An inclusive policy involving faculty sponsors and the YM panel was formulated, emphasising the importance of workshops, expert podcasts, and speaking events focused on current engineering trends.

Annual Activities Schedule: A detailed schedule of annual activities was proposed, aiming to offer a diverse range of events to keep students engaged and informed about the latest developments in the engineering field.

Proposal for AI and Industrial Fusion Event

Prof. Dr. Abdul Shakoor, Faculty Sponsor from the IMechE UET Peshawar student chapter introduced an exciting proposal for a chain event centred on AI and Industrial Fusion. This initiative aims to strengthen the relationship between academia and industry by fostering collaborative projects and innovative solutions.

SRS Initiation and International Conference Proposal

Structured Registration Scheme (SRS): The committee discussed the initiation of SRS at local universities. This scheme, involving active faculty participation, aims to promote research, professional development, and innovation among students.

International IMechE Conference 2026: North Panel Chair Hassan G. Ansari proposed hosting an International IMechE Conference in the North Region by 2026. This ambitious plan aims to raise the region's profile and encourage international collaboration within the engineering community.
