Pavegen encourages London commuters to up their speed

The UK company behind power-generating pavement tiles has launched its technology on the US market

Pavegen, the UK company behind power-generating pavement tiles, has contacted the firm behind a venture to bring fast walking lanes to London, with hopes to use its technology for the project.

Direct Line was behind the pilot project that saw a 50m walkway opened for two days by London’s Waterloo station with a suggested walking speed of 5mph. Similar lanes have been trialled in other major cities. In New York there are tourist lanes and China’s Chongqing installed a slow texting lane.

The news comes after Pavegen launched its V3 smart tile technology on the US market as part of the London Mayor’s recent visit to the US, which aimed to show that the capital is ready for business following the EU referendum. “We have been preparing our expansion to the US for some time. This has also been done just before we start our installation in Washington DC, just walking distance from the White House,” said Pavegen.
