Why is there no campaign to have all engineers take two minutes to sign-up?
I read with interest the comment in Engineering eye about the e-petition to have the title “engineer” protected in law (PE December). It apparently needs 100,000 signatures to have the idea debated in parliament.
The idea seems such an obvious one that one wonders what the professional bodies that represent engineering have been doing these last 164 years (in the case of IMechE) in not lobbying parliament for this before!
We read endless articles in PE about the need for the profession to “speak with one voice” and to collaborate on matters of common interest and here is a simple idea that may result in our profession being seen in a better light by prospective new entrants – and what are the institutions doing to support it? I suggest the answer is nothing!
Why is there no campaign, coordinated by IMechE across all engineering institutions, to have all engineers take two minutes to sign-up to the campaign.
