Join the discussion on 17 September 2020 around how innovative skills development is set to boost the automotive sector, hosted by the MTI.

The coronavirus pandemic could not have come at a worse time for the automotive sector as the industry grapples with the seismic changes brought about by emerging technologies.

As the sector turns its focus to a new post-pandemic era, the MIRA Technology Institute (MTI) is bringing together some key commentators to provide an overview on the latest sector developments. They will also explore how skills delivery is being adapted to provide solutions that will boost productivity, increase resilience, and better equip the industry to capitalise on the significant changes now underway.

With representatives from McLaren, HORIBA MIRA, DHL, and the MIRA Technology Institute, the panel will explore the key issues around skills and training emerging from the pandemic including:

  • How the automotive sector is adapting to focus on emerging technologies
  • Key skills gaps and training requirements
  • Diverse modes of education delivery in a socially distanced world
  • How skills delivery has become more flexible and responsive

About the MTI:

The MTI is the result of a unique collaboration led by North Warwickshire and South Leicestershire College, and its partners, HORIBA MIRA, Coventry University, the University of Leicester, and Loughborough University.

It was built with a £9.5m allocation from the Local Growth Fund, a pot of government funding awarded to the Leicester and Leicestershire Enterprise Partnership Limited (LLEP) for projects that benefit the local area and economy. A specialist facility designed specifically to train the next generation of engineers in the latest automotive technology, the MTI is located within the LLEP’s Enterprise Zone at MIRA Technology Park.
