David will be chairing the upcoming Sustainable and Decarbonised Construction seminar, for the full agenda and to join, please visit the website.
David Kerr (DK): Hello everyone, my name is David Kerr and I am the Vice Chair of the IMechE’s Construction and Building Services Division. I would be pleased if you could join us at IMechE HQ Birdcage Walk on the 15th October for our annual Sustainable and Decarbonised Construction seminar which I will be chairing.
What, in your experience, has been the biggest roadblock for the industry over the past 2-3 years?
DK: I think one of the biggest roadblocks for the industry with respect to Sustainable and Decarbonised Construction has been scaling, making affordable and available, and applying the technology and methods that already exist, that support Sustainable and Decarbonised Construction in the energy transition.
What key topics are you excited to discuss at this year's conference?
DK: I look forward to discussing the range of themes we have this year:
- Sustainable & decarbonised construction materials and systems
- Transitioning to sustainable & decarbonised fuels and power sources
- Sustainable & decarbonised project execution
What would you say are the areas of innovation across the UK construction industry?
DK: A focus on materials, fuels, power, building or asset performance are all important, but I think the biggest gains still remain in executing projects more efficiently. Using less materials and energy, bringing true production thinking to construction execution, driving up productivity through people, processes and technology.
Who else are you most interested in hearing from on the programme?
DK: We are proud to have attracted a high quality of presenter this year from across the construction industry supply chain. I am excited to hear more about the options that are available in materials, fuels and power, but also hear about practical applications from construction and project professionals.
Why is it important for engineers to join this conference?
DK: It is important for not just engineers but for project professionals and decision makers from across the construction industry to attend the conference, to keep up to date, share and learn from others, network with those with similar challenges, and hopefully make useful connections for the future.
Sustainable and Decarbonised Construction 2024 will take place on 15 October 2024 at One Birdcage Walk, London
This technical seminar will showcase the latest innovations in plants, alternative fuels, heavy machinery, and new materials all contributing to reduced emissions in this sector. Presentations will share recent advances and lessons learned from projects at Shell, Tata Steel, JCB, Mitsubishi Electric and more.
Attendees will also be able to join the knowledge sharing and networking of the Crane Safety 2024 seminar, also taking place at the same time.
