First turbine of 62MW project is installed at Redcar

EDF Energy Renewables has installed the first wind turbine at the Teesside offshore wind farm. It is the first of 27 that will sit 1.5km off the coast of Redcar, in the North East of the country.

The wind farm is expected to generate 62MW and will be completed by Spring.

A six leg jack vessel, known as MPI Adventure, has been used to lift the tower, nacelle and rotor blades at the Port of Hartlepool.

Commissioning tests on the new installation are due to begin in the weeks ahead.

The company has 21 onshore wind farms that contribute 300MW of low carbon electricity in the UK. Including the Teesside scheme, it has a further 224MW of additional capacity under construction.
