US firm to invest £22m in manufacturing and research and development

Around 260 jobs are to be created in Co Tyrone by a multinational manufacturing company.

US corporation Terex is investing almost £22 million in its operations in Northern Ireland. The investment will fund the construction of new factory space and purchase of new equipment, as well as research and development activities to support growth plans.

The company manufactures a range of materials processing equipment at factories in the towns of Omagh and Dungannon.

The Terex GB jobs in Tyrone will be created over the next four years with £2.6 million of support from Invest Northern Ireland.

Kieran Hegarty, president of Terex Materials Processing, said: “We expect our turnover to increase further over the coming years and we will need to expand our factory space and workforce to cope with projected demand."

He added that the support from Invest NI was “instrumental” in the decision to expand there. “This project will help to strengthen Northern Ireland's position as a centre of excellence for mobile crushing and screening, from design through to manufacture and to global sales,” he said.

Enterprise minister Arlene Foster welcomed the jobs announcement. She said: “Terex GB is one of Northern Ireland's top engineering companies and this decision to expand is a boost for Northern Ireland's vibrant materials-handling sector.

“It also acknowledges the value which the Terex Corporation places on the skilled and educated workforce available here.”

She added that the investment will create further skilled jobs within the manufacturing supply chain.
