Institution News Team
We are running an indicative poll of voting members as part of our consultation over the future of our Birdcage Walk headquarters.
Our Birdcage Walk headquarters are 123 years old and now require repair and modernisation for us to continue to operate there. This work will involve an investment of £16-20m, and we do not have funds in our free reserves to cover this.
The future of our headquarters is a significant decision, and this indicative poll is part of the consultation process with our members.
It lists five options for Birdcage Walk and will provide the Institution with valuable feedback about the support from voting members for the different proposals for the future of the building.
The Institution’s Real Estate Strategy Group has been looking at options for the building and their recommendation made last year was the sale of a long lease of 3 Birdcage Walk to fund the repair and modernisation of 1 Birdcage Walk.
This proposal is the preferred option of the Trustees. However, when we ran a series of webinars in Q4 2021 to consult with members, it was clear there was a desire from some members for consideration of alternative proposals.
As a result, the Trustee Board has decided to conduct an indicative poll of voting members to establish their views about the future of our headquarters.
The poll is non-binding but will provide valuable feedback to inform the proposal about the future of the building that will put forward to a Special Meeting later this year.
If you are a Corporate or Associate voting member, you will have received an email from MSS Research on 20 January containing an invitation to participate. Please check your email and have your say.
