The IMechE's industry-leading forum for Steam Turbines and Generators returns in 2025

Institution News Team

The Institution once again brings together the growing community of like-minded engineers to tackle the latest industry trends and provide a platform to share best practice in asset operation and service.

The Steam Turbine and Generator User Group 2025 reconvenes on 12-13 March 2025 at the Emirates Old Trafford Cricket Ground in Manchester; to book your place visit the event website (early bird discount ends 15 January 2025).

Following the success of 2024's User Group that saw well over 200 engineers attend, the Institution of Mechanical Engineers is delighted to announce the programme of topics and speakers for 2025's Steam Turbine and Generator User Group (STUG), the first event in its calendar of specialised power industry user groups.

Taking place annually for more than 16 years, STUG continues to bring together a growing community of engineers to address common challenges, highlight new technical advances, and to share best practice and lessons learned from the last twelve months.

Technical presentations taking place are reviewed and curated by a dedicated committee of senior engineers working across the power industry to ensure they provide attendees with the most relevant updates from leading operators, manufacturers, service providers, maintenance professionals and asset experts.

This year's agenda will be led by an opening keynote from the CEO of cross-party think tank Palace Yard Natascha Engel, who will outline the current power industry landscape and set the tone for the following two days. Natascha will joined by representatives from Ansaldo Energia, Siemens, GE Vernova Gas Power, Sulzer, Sebenzana, Arabelle Solutions, Uniper, FM Global, Suez, EDF, Mechanical Dynamics & Analysis, Quartzelec, Miba Industrial Bearings, and many more: read the full agenda online.

Attendees also have the opportunity to continue their discussions and build their network of contacts across the international engineering community during dedicated networking activities, across the busy exhibition area and at the complimentary user group dinner for all attendees at the end of day one.

Designed for and by engineers to meet the needs of asset users, STUG continues to gain impressive plaudits from attendees, with mechanical engineer Christian Keefe from Intergen describing the 2024 User Group as "a preeminent power industry event providing an opportunity to share information on industry best practice, new technology and current issues, supported by very high quality presentations." First-time attendee Chris Early from VPI Power called it "an ideal opportunity to learn from other companies experiences, products and services...I was not disappointed," while Richard London from EDF named it "the 'must go to' event for Steam Turbine and Generator users."
