Since the last war, and probably before, Britain has suffered many poor governments of various colours

Since the last war, and probably before, Britain has suffered many poor governments of various colours. Could the reason be the Human brain's capacity? A person with a 'First' from Oxbridge is immediately recruited by the civil service he/she has an outstanding brain with a prodigious memory. A large memory must result in less capacity for the Brain's other functions such as imagination, common sense etc.?

A brain steeped in the classics, with a detailed knowledge of the decline and fall of empires and such, may not be the best provider of advice to a Politician. Consider, instead of the European fiasco, if Britain had developed a Commonwealth trading bloc in the sixties; we should now have been a wealthier nation and have a greater significance in world affairs.

It's just a thought!
