The Health & Safety Event returns to Birmingham’s NEC from 22nd to 24th March.

The UK’s fastest growing event in the sector has built up a reputation for providing free access to a wealth of educational content, interactive forums and product manufacturers and service providers.

'Three days to save a life' is the overall theme for this year and one of the major draws will be the CPD-qualifying educational content that awaits visitors.

The British Safety Council and The International Institute of Risk & Safety Management (IIRSM) have organised an impressive panel of respected speakers for the event’s conference theatre.

Conference highlights:

• HSE Strategy: Kevin Myers, director general regulation, Health & Safety Executive (HSE), will outline the regulator’s current strategy and its future plans for maintaining and further improving the UK’s exemplary health and safety record.

• Legislative Update: Chris Green, a partner with law firm Weightmans, will be discussing the latest legislative updates in health and safety including the new Sentencing Council guidelines.

• Construction Health: Clive Johnson from Land Securities will present on health in the construction industry, drawing on the ground-breaking work carried out by the Health in Construction Leadership Group.

• Construction Competence Debate: A panel representing the client, the contractor and the regulator will debate the effectiveness of the current regime for determining competence in the construction industry, the key components in ensuring the selection of suitable contractors and the regulatory and financial consequences of getting it wrong.

In addition to the free conference and 200 exhibitor stands, The Health & Safety Event will provide a platform for Four Features:

• Safety Dialogue: Visitors are urged to ‘join the debate’ and engage with a panel of leading authorities to discuss topical issues, including hearing protection and respiratory protective equipment.

• Safer Logistics: This theatre brings together expert guidance and advice from leading industry bodies to examine the key safety challenges in warehousing and logistics.

• Education Pavilion: Supported by NEBOSH, this new feature will host an ‘Ask the Expert’ facility and provide visitors with direct access to educational advice and guidance.

• Lions' Lair: Also new for 2016, exhibitors will have five minutes to impress the judges with their latest innovations. The judges and live audience will then vote to determine which product could have the biggest impact on health and safety and is therefore worthy of the Lions’ Lair crown.

The Health & Safety Event is co-located with Maintec 2016 – the UK’s longest running maintenance, plant and asset management event, and Facilities Management 2016 – the UK’s only event for the facilities industry outside of London. One badge provides free entry to all three events.
