BC stands for before Christ, and it is indisputable that he was a pivotal historical figure

I fully concur with the letter from John Marchbank.

I was reading your article ‘Journeys to the red planet’ when I came across the term BCE instead of BC. I find this change extremely irritating and completely unnecessary. Everyone knows that BC stands for before Christ, and it is indisputable that he was a pivotal historical figure. I can see no reason to change the nomenclature apart from a deliberate attempt to eliminate Christ from our thinking and culture, in the same way that Stalingrad has now been renamed out of embarrassment. Please refrain from this offensive terminology in future.
