UAE holds Speak Out for Engineering Competition

Talented speakers showcase their skills at University of Bolton Ras Al Khaima Campus

The Young Member committee of United Arab Emirates organised the most prestigious second ever public speaking competition, SOfE (Speak out for Engineering) on 14th October 2016 at University of Bolton Ras Al Khaima Campus.

Speak Out for Engineering (SOfE) a competition organized for engineers, by engineers, is conducted annually by the IMechE Volunteer Network. It was established to challenge young engineers to prove that they could ‘communicate effectively’, an important area for today’s developing engineers. Basically, in the competition, the speaker should give an individual oral presentation on a subject relating to mechanical engineering for not more than 20 minutes, followed by a 10 minutes Q&A session from the audience.

For the second time, IMechE UAE Chapter was proud to be the host of this country level competition. The young Mechanical Engineers, Affiliate members of IMechE from reputed engineering institutions namely, Heriot-Watt University Dubai, University Of Bolton RAK Campus and Manipal University Dubai including the affiliate members of IMechE from the Industry Sector of United Arab Emirates participated in this competition.

The honorable judges for this competition were Mr. Stuart Merrick MIMechE (Chartered Engineer from more than 25 years and work in offshore Oil and Gas projects, Mr. Keith Usher (Managing Director Insight Learning Organization), Mr. Aly Diab (Design and Engineering Manager at BK Gulf) and Mr. Angelo Manesero (BSc CEng MIStructE & member of PCE UAE).

This event was graced by the presence of honorable guests from faculty of Heriot-Watt Dubai, Manipal University and University Of Bolton RAK Campus. They were Mr.Rajiv, Miss Shimna Shafeek and colleagues.

After intense competition and wonderful presentations by the talented speakers, Mr. Ahmed Qayyum stood winner presented the topic, DESIGN, MANUFACTURING AND TESTING OF LINE LAUNCHER (IMechE Challenge) and Ms. Najeebah Rahman was the runner up who presented the topic, AEROGELS. The champion will receive £300 plus certificate while the runner-up will receive £200 plus certificate.
