Pupils at Blackwood Primary School in Sutton Coldfield enjoyed learning about engineering thanks to a project supported by the Engineering Education Grant Scheme.
Through the "Walsall Engineers - Past, Present and Future" programme, the pupils discovered more about their local engineering heritage. With the help of STEM Ambassadors who came into school, they went on to design their own projects creating imaginative devices to solve problems they had identified. The STEM Ambassadors included two Institution members -- Vinita Meissner and Libby Pincher.
Local MP Wendy Moreton, who gave out out awards to the best projects at a prize giving, said she was very impressed by the children’s creations; projects like this are essential to inspiring the engineers of the future.
Head Teacher Tracey Coles said the project had been a fantastic success and had fueled the children’s aspirations,
“The conversation around school is all about engineering with many children saying “I want to be an engineer,” she added.
