Congratulations King Lucas Darko for winning Volunteer of the Year, and who has recently secured employment with Newmont Ghana.

The Young Member award is of particular importance, as it will attract global IMechE community members to the activities in Ghana, motivating young members to help make it a better place to live for everyone.

King Lucas Darko believes it the responsibility of young engineers to design sustainable solutions, to help fix some of the world's biggest problems, “We must see it as a "call to save the world" and together, we can save the people and the planet”.

Congratulations Ir. Dr. Yaw Long Chua from National Energy University in Malaysia for securing the award for Young Visionary Member.

“This accomplishment is a significant milestone in my life. I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude towards all who have been a part of my journey in achieving this award and those that believed in me, especially my beloved wife for her constant support and understanding in all my efforts.” - Ir Dr Yaw Long Chua

The Young Visionary Member award is an inspiration to global members and youth who are focused and determined to achieve their goals and ambitions, “This award will be a constant personal reminder in advancing steadfastly to contribute towards the development of Members and youth”.

For future engineers, he has the following advice;

“Believe that you can achieve whatever you set out to do. Plan and execute your work effectively, managing your time without wasting any moment. Every extra step that you take will make a difference, not only in your life, but also for others”. - Ir Dr Yaw Long Chua

Lastly, a huge well done to Developing Engineer of the Year, David Pearce of MTR Elizabeth Line.

“I’m mostly surprised but also incredibly humbled to be recognised in my achievements by such a respected institution as the IMechE.” - David Pearce

The award is validation and well deserved recognition for the hard work and long hours David has put into self development as well as for those who are joining the industry at present, “I hope it will provide me with some further motivation to keep trying my hardest in everything I do and be the best I can!”

David is focused on delivering the final opening stages of the Elizabeth Line with MTR, Transport for London and Alstom. Bigger picture? “I will continue to work towards being a future leader within the industry and a role model for young engineers joining or considering joining the industry.”

David has the following words of wisdom for the future of engineers, “Always make the most of opportunities presented to you. Even if you feel it’s not something you want to do for the rest of your life, it’s already added value in informing your future decisions”.
