Community Renewable Energy Workshop

The Community Renewable Energy Workshop, hosted by the IMechE, took place on 26 February 2019. 

Organised by the Institution’s Renewable Power Committee, Engineering Policy Unit, and Energy, Environment and Sustainability Group, the workshop convened around 40 experts for a full day to discuss the future of the sector and what can be learned from past experience.

Seven external guests with specific expertise in community energy were invited to give presentations:

• Emma Bridge, Community Energy England
• Patrick Allcorn, BEIS (no slides)
• Ian Jackson, Ambergate Hydro
• Professor Mark Gillott, University of Nottingham and Project SCENe
• Philip Wolfe, Westmill Solar Co-operative
• Stirling Habbitts, Triodos (presentation delivered by colleague in his absence)
• Tim Wynn-Jones, Good Energy.

In-between two sessions of formal presentations, breakout discussions were held during which various questions on community energy were put to delegates.
