Our Annual Review details how we achieved our strategic objectives in 2006.
Regional visits have been a Presidential priority and the last seven months have seen increased recognition for the role and importance of Young Members, including a drive to establish a Young Member Panel in every single region. We have also opened up to the next generation of engineers with the new President’s Apprenticeship scheme.
Championing education and skills We have been keen to take forward the decision for us to obtain the Engineering Technician Licence from the Engineering Council (UK). This licence will provide the opportunity for all types of engineer to join the Institution, and strengthen our links with further education, apprentices and industry. Prioritising Young Members We have been supportive of joint institutional educational initiatives, such as Shape the Future and the Technology and Engineering in Schools Strategy with the Royal Academy of Engineering. We also support the actions of the Engineering Education Alliance, especially its project to create a simplified big-picture engineering message, to communicate the richness and excitement of the engineering profession. Ensuring we are outward-facing We have established clear guidance and direction, on which we can concentrate our expertise and resources. As a result, the Technical Strategy Board has agreed four key themes (energy, environment, education and transport) which all Divisions and Groups will focus their activities on, to achieve quantifiable outputs.
