Engineering the Uk’s Future

A summary of the IMechE’s response to the UK Government’s Modern Industrial Strategy Green Paper.

In October 2024, the UK government published a green paper on a new modern Industrial Strategy: ‘Invest 2035’. This 10-year plan aims to provide businesses with the “certainty and stability” needed to invest in growth-driving sectors that will drive economic expansion across the UK.

The Strategy focuses on addressing barriers to growth within key industries and regions, fostering an environment conducive to increased investment, the creation of high-quality jobs, and delivering tangible benefits to communities nationwide.

The Green Paper set out the government’s approach and asked for views and evidence to help support the development of a final strategy, which is scheduled for publication in Spring 2025. This document provides a summary of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers’ (IMechE’s) response to the consultation.
