Summary

This event examines what went wrong, why, and offers practical solutions to manage such situations while minimizing service disruptions and financial impact.

This year's Managing Fractures on the Railway seminar will continue to showcase the efforts of engineers to address fracture events and to carry out more effective detection, mitigation and repair.

No operator or maintainer is immune from these problems; while fractures have traditionally been a dominant factor in managing older fleets and life extensions, there have been high-profile examples affecting new fleets.

In recent times there has been a significant number of rolling stock fracture events on mainline and metro fleets that have had a major impact on trains available for service and/or the costs of additional maintenance and final resolution.

  • Discuss a range range of ideas as to how engineering can contribute to managing sudden significant fractures
