Business Presentation Plan event guidance

Formula Student Team

Ahead of the 2021 competition, Head Judge Mark Hassall shares some details for all team members preparing for this event.

In particular, this year the UK rules have had a significant amendment that all teams should be aware of:

Only teams that are judged to have fully satisfied the Special Condition (S.1.1.6) will be eligible to proceed to the BPP final detailed in S.1.5.2.

For all teams who have not already taken this into consideration for their presentation, the special condition for this year has been available on the Forms and Documents page for several months and is as follows:

The investor you’re presenting to currently owns 20 karting circuits in the UK. They are looking to partner with a vehicle supplier that can manufacture formula style cars for use at these circuits.

You must submit your Powerpoint presentation slide deck, together with any optional supporting documents PDFs, by the deadline of 31 May 2021 at 1700 UTC.

Those who miss this deadline will incur a penalty of -10 points per day (or part thereof), up to a maximum of -50 points. There is also -50 points penalty for those who do not submit their slide deck by the final date for late submission by 7 June 2021 at 1700 UTC.

Teams are encouraged to submit their work in plenty of time before the deadline to avoid any unnecessary penalties involved with internet issues, time zones, computer failure or any other technical problems.

Shortly after the final deadline for submissions, Mark and his judging team will organise and release a judging schedule for all the teams taking part.

Presentations will take place on 17 and 18 June 2021 using Microsoft Teams and will be hosted between 9am and 5pm BST. The judges will try to accommodate teams operating across different time zones, such as those in Mexico and Hong Kong.

As with the 2020 virtual presentations, please ensure that your team are ready for your presentation:

  • Check that your internet connection is stable
  • Connect to the meeting a few minutes before you are due to present
  • Have all your notes and presentation available to refer to
  • Make sure you are in a quiet room without disruptions

Best of luck to all teams with your preparation.
