Summary

This course has been designed to give an initial grounding on the different mechanical properties measured, together with descriptions of the methods used to measure them.

This one-day programme explains the mechanical properties and testing procedures use for the design, quality and performance behaviour of metals and why measurement of these properties is an important consideration in material selection.

The knowledge gained will enable delegates to have some understanding of why these mechanical properties are important in materials and some indication of the balancing of mechanical properties that is essential in materials selection.

Who should attend?

This course suits managers and technicians responsible for the QA testing of materials and products. It is equally suited to designers, engineers,  procurement and business development personnel in all branches of manufacturing engineering.

How will I benefit?

After this course  you will be able to:

  • Appreciate the procedures used to determine tensile, hardness, toughness, fatigue and creep properties of metals.
  • Understand how material properties are derived from the test results.
  • Learn how material properties are used to support product design, quality and performance.
  • Review a range of NDT techniques.
  • Cite practical examples of industrial applications.
