Summary

This comprehensive two-day course provides engineers with knowledge of industrial refrigeration and heat pump technologies, focusing on system design, efficiency optimisation, and modern refrigerants. Participants will gain practical understanding of cascade arrangements, and high-temperature heat pump applications, supported by real-world calculations and current regulations.

The refrigeration and heat pump sector is undergoing its most significant transformation in decades, driven by urgent environmental regulations and the push for industrial decarbonisation. The phase-down of high-GWP refrigerants, combined with ambitious net-zero targets, has accelerated the adoption of natural refrigerants and high-temperature heat pump technologies across industrial processes. This evolution requires engineers to master both fundamental thermodynamic principles and emerging technologies, from transcritical CO2 systems to complex cascade arrangements.

Recent developments in heat pump technology have expanded their application into previously untapped high-temperature industrial processes, offering significant potential for waste heat recovery and process heating up to 150°C. However, this rapid technological advancement has created a significant skills gap in the industry, particularly in system optimization, natural refrigerant handling, and advanced cycle analysis. Understanding these systems has become crucial for engineers involved in industrial process heating, cooling, and energy management.

Who should attend?

This course is designed for engineers, designers, project managers and industry leaders involved in the specification, design and operation of refrigeration or heat pump systems.

How will I benefit?

Companies investing in this advanced refrigeration and heat pump training will significantly reduce operational costs through optimized system performance, minimized emergency callouts, and extended equipment lifespan. With energy costs soaring and F-gas regulations tightening, trained engineers can deliver significant energy savings while ensuring compliance with evolving regulations that carry substantial penalties for violations.

The course develops critical in-house expertise that reduces dependence on external contractors and positions organisations to capitalise on government incentives for heat pump adoption and system upgrades. This technical capability enables companies to identify heat recovery opportunities, integrate high-temperature heat pumps into industrial processes, and achieve corporate sustainability goals – increasingly essential for customer and investor relations in today's environmentally conscious market.
